What causes Fibromyalgia

Although the cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, researchers have several theories about causes or triggers of the disorder. Some scientists believe that the syndrome may be caused by an injury or trauma. This injury may affect the central nervous system. Fibromyalgia may be associated with changes in muscle metabolism, such as decreased blood flow, causing fatigue and decreased strength. Others believe the syndrome may be triggered by an infectious agent such as a virus in susceptible people, but no such agent has been identified.

Hi Fibroviv,

I can't help noticing, as a reader of your blog who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 12 years ago, cfids 16 years ago and so on, if you have had your thyroid tested thoroughly or tried a trial of natural dessicated thyroid extract?
It would appear an inordinately large number of people who are diagnosed with fms cfids are actually untreated undiagnosed hypothyroid.
Might i suggest:
http://www.drlowe.com/
as an overview, and then http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com to get started on better health.
If you have been tested for TSH and told you are not sick, that is no answer. TSH is a useless diagnostic for most hypothyroid patients. Critical to your symptoms is your Free T3 reading which must be in the upper third of the healthy range for you to be absolutely ruled out of having a dysfunctional thyroid.
I wish you well, please feel free to contact me,
Cat

Hello Cat!

Welcome and thank you for posting on my blog and reading it! This is very exciting for me:)

I had my thyroid checked some years ago. I will take your advise and have my doctor check into this. Thanks for sharing information. I hope it will help me and others!

Please feel free to add more information and share your experience. I really want people to try and help each other. People who do not suffer from FMS/CFIDS have difficulty understanding what patients feel and deal with on a daily basis. Yes, there are many people that try and understand, but unless you have actually experienced any type of illness, loss, etc., they truly cannot understand 100%.

Again, thank you so much for posting. You have made my day!

Hi Fibroviv-
Have you read any work by Dr. David Bell ? He is a physician here near Rochester & Buffalo NY in a small town called Lyndonville, NY. Quite a few years ago they had an outbreak of CFiDS and many people became ill. He has given up his practice and sees only patients who were living in the area back then.
I was lucky - my daughter and I both saw him, and got the diagnosis along with my Fibro. Currently he is in Europe on a speaking tour. Here is his site and books he has written, below.

The last I heard he is not taking any new patients ??
I wish people would comment on your site as we can be heard better with a group.

Hello Connie,

Yes it would be great if people would comment and share their experience. Everyone is unique and I know not everything works the same on everyone however, I believe most of us are willing to try new things.

Wishing you the best and thank you for commenting.
